Meet James Lee – Software Engineer at MemberSuite
What’s your position at MemberSuite?
I’m part of the Professional Services team at MemberSuite. I am a Software Engineer.
How did you get into engineering?
In a nutshell, I stumbled into the role of Software Engineer. After graduating with an Electrical Engineering degree, I started out working for a car part manufacturing company in Alabama doing IT work including hardware management, database management, and programming. After doing that for a couple of years, I decided it was time to leave Alabama for good and started looking for positions back in my hometown of good ol’ Atlanta, GA. After preparing myself, I dove into my interview at MemberSuite and stumbled my way through. I would liken it to me running an MXC course. Luckily, MemberSuite saw potential in me and overlooked my intense perspiration during the interview, and, well, here I am.
What should we know about you?
I try to better myself everyday, whether it’s by educating or challenging myself. Fun fact, if I hadn’t chosen to study engineering I would have studied culinary arts with goals to become a sushi chef.
What is one of your hobbies?
One of my major hobbies includes producing small-batch salsas to sell at local Atlanta farmers markets. My buddy and I started this venture in college after realizing that there were no good green salsas available to buy. Everything seemed to have extra sugars and other stuff that we thought were totally unnecessary. We strive to create a salsa that not only tastes great, but is simple to cook and good for you. Thus, Hopes Salsa was born. It’s been quite a ride starting up a company, and I’ve learned a lot about myself along the way.
Other than my salsa company, I enjoy photography, cooking, and PC gaming including Rainbow Six: Siege and Overwatch.
What is your favorite project you’ve worked on at MemberSuite?
My favorite project I’ve worked on so far at MemberSuite would be our 2018 Engage User Conference. I had a great time sitting in on the information sessions as well as presenting a breakout session centered around our API and the Single Sign-On implementation process. The conference allowed me to meet our amazing clients and get to know them on a more personal level without a computer monitor between us. Definitely something I’m looking forward to again next year.
What is the best part about working at MemberSuite?
The best part of working at MemberSuite is definitely the people. My co-workers have great work ethics, are kind, helpful, flexible, and are incredibly intelligent and talented. Working here really feels like a large group of friends that just happen to work at the same office. The vibe of the office is best summarized as “Work hard, play hard.” We have a great time.
Anything else you’d like everyone to know?
It’s hard to know someone over a few paragraphs. Come out to the 2019 Engage User Conference and really get to know me over a few days instead!
