Resolutions for Your Association in 2017
The new year is here and if you haven’t made any already, it’s time to start thinking about your New Year’s resolutions. I don’t mean your personal ones (like getting in shape or traveling more), but ones for your association. The start of a new year is a great excuse to consider ways you can improve your organization.
To save you some time, we put together a few ideas to get you started:
Embrace New Technology
Chances are, you ditched your flip phone and your 300lb TV years ago and for good reason – better things came out to replace them. The same goes for the technology you use for business. Software innovation moves fast to keep you efficient and your members happy, but you have to keep up with it. Choosing new technology is no walk in the park though, You have to find what’s a good fit for your organization now and in the future.
Reinvent Your Organization
You know the saying – new year, new you! The same can go for your association. Use 2017 as a launch pad for new processes and programs. Take a look at your data – what are your members asking for? It might be the time to introduce a new program or refresh an old event. It’s also a good time to roll out a new membership structure that gives your prospective members more options. (Just make sure your AMS can support the change.)
Kick Bad Habits
Turn over a new leaf in 2017 and kick those bad habits to the curb. Is your organization still doing any of these?
- Manual membership or event registration
Quit making things so hard on yourself and your members. Let your members self-serve. - Using Excel for reporting
Become data-driven through the power of true analytics and reporting so you know what’s really going on in your association. - Duplicate data entry between multiple systems
The lack of integration between the various platforms you use and your central database can create many challenges. It doesn’t have to be that hard. - Hoarding decades of data
Historical data isn’t always a bad thing, but if you’re not using it do you really need it?
Whatever your resolution your association picks in 2017, just make sure it’s one that you’ll stick with and can achieve.
